Rumours & Gossip - New York shows next week?

Brooklyn Vegan strongly suspects that We Are Scientists are playing some shows next week in New York under the name Beat Up Old Fellas. And we know the internet never lies so we're going to believe them.

The dates are:
June 6 @ Luna Lounge w/ Nicole Atkins & The Sea and The Long Blondes
June 8 @ Maxwell's w/ Snowden & The King Left
June 9 @ Mercury Lounge w/ The Spinto Band, The Teeth & Bling Kong

Read and speculate here.

Rumours & Gossip - Could We Are Scientists be leaving Virgin?

MTV's Subterranean blog reports:

"We’ve heard rumors that WAS are trying to extract themselves from their record deal with Virgin/Capitol Music Group as the two aren’t so compatible after all." [source]

This story could be fabricated lies, but if it's true, will it make any difference to the future of We Are Scientists? Will label delay postpone the release of the next album? Without Virgin forcing them to come to the UK all the time, does it mean they won't play here 987633 times a year? Answers on a postcard...

A few more UK Shows

A copied and pasted Myspace bulletin:
People -
In order to help us remember how to perform both our songs and our scripted between-song banter in time for our NME Awards show at the Astoria on February 27 (which, contrary to claims on the NME’s own ill-maintained site, is sold out, sold way out, like, sold out the day they went on sale, so what kind of fantasy world is the NME’s webmaster living in, keeping a live link to the ticket provider’s site, where excited would-be-concertgoers will have their hopes dashed when they realize that, sorry, sucker, it’s sold out, you should have bought your tickets like three seconds after they went on sale?), we’re playing a few warm-up and cool-down shows in the UK around that date. They are:

Sun, Feb 25
Loughborough University
Box office :- 01509 635 5000 / www.sutickets.com / www.seetickets.com

Mon, Feb 26
Hull University
Box office :- 01482 466264 / www.sutickets.com / www.seetickets.com

Wed, Feb 28
Bournemouth University
Box office:- www.seetickets.com / 0871-220-0260 / www.oldfirestation.co.uk

Word on the street is that the tickets go on sale on Monday afternoon. Enjoy!

Album Update #1

As reported by the NME, Keith has started work on the next album already. "It is going to mix the actual music of Editors with the actual lyrics of Arctic Monkeys and the three-part harmonies of the Eagles."

Check out the Queens Speech which is not only an excellent look back on 2006, but gives you a little update on the latest exploits of their facial hair.

Beardy Winner!

We were slightly worried crowning Michael early was a little presumptuous. Was there any contest? Of course not, he won the prestigious Beard of the Year accolade for the second year running. Congratulations, bearded one!

While it's all quiet on the 'Scientists front, we have decided to compile a comprehensive gigography. If anyone has been to a show in the past 2 years and has a photo/ticket stub/flyer/poster/anything else related from the show we would be ecstatic if you could send it to us:

pastshows@wearentscientists.com

(just a scan, we don't want the actual article - you keep that). We love memoirs! Thanks in advance.

Vote Michael for Beard of the Year

Don't let Michael lose his crown, vote for his luscious facial hair in the This Is Fake DIY Beard of the Year competition. Make sure he reins victorious for a second year running.

Thank you to everyone who read our advent calendar. Obviously it's now over but there's still a super competition running on day 24 that you must not miss.

Cheeky little bit of non-news

If you grab a copy of Vice magazine (available from all good trendy stores) this month, there's a Crap Attack sticker inside. Best news? The magazine's free! 13/11/06

Showbiz Brixton UK Tour Finale

On Thursday and Friday, Chris Urbanowicz from Editors (Uber-Chris) joined the band onstage during The Great Escape and took over guitar duties during the last chorus so Keith could have a little dance. Meanwhile, on Friday night at Popstarz, Antony Rossomando from Dirty Pretty Things also came onstage. Starstudded.

NME.com has a little report from the Thursday show and Music.OMH review it too. We Aren't Scientists are now the proud owners of one aforementioned sparkly 'english gentleman' hat.

AND Popworld have done a new interview with Keith, take a peek.
